Plaza de Armas of Ica

The Plaza de Armas of Ica is a historically significant place in the city, not only for its age but also for its unique atmosphere. Surrounded by towering Ficus trees, it provides a distinctive environment that recalls past times, giving it a traditional and welcoming feel. It was founded in 1563 by the conqueror Gerónimo Luis de Cabrera y Toledo, who played a key role in the expansion of the Pisco and Ica valleys.

In terms of its development, the square was paved in 1896, according to records from historians like Juan Pardo Cornejo and Rodolfo Chalco Cueto, marking a significant change in its structure and appearance. Additionally, the Ficus trees that embellish the square today were planted in August 1889, creating the landscape we know today.
