The House of Tejas
The Casa de las Tejas de Doña Rosalía García is an iconic place in Ica, known for its tradition in the artisanal production of tejas (a type of local candy). Doña Rosalía, a humble woman, began making these delicious sweets in her home around 1932, using traditional methods and pots that are still preserved in the house to honor her memory. Tejas are a typical treat from the region, made with manjar blanco (a sweet milk-based spread) and coated with a layer of chocolate. They have become an important part of the local cuisine. Today, the Casa de las Tejas remains a reference point where visitors can learn about the history of this tradition and enjoy tejas and other typical sweets, keeping the memory of Doña Rosalía alive.
